"When is the best time to visit China?" It depends. Spring: south is beautiful, plum blossoms in Nanjing. Summer: hot and wet, but Tibet and Qinghai are at their best. Plus watermelon season. Autumn: perfect. Beijing clearest skies, Guilin rice terraces gold. My favorite. Winter: Harbin at -30C, but Yunnan is mild, Hainan is warm. There is no bad time. Just the right time for your trip.

Most public restrooms in China have hot water. Not warm. Hot. A small thing that tells you something: the daily experience of ordinary people matters. An Australian client: "Back home even fancy restaurants have cold water. Here a highway rest stop has heated taps. What does that say about priorities?" I think about this every time I wash my hands.

15 years of picking up clients at Chinese airports. 2009: one terminal, paper tickets, taxi touts. 2026: giant terminals, self-service kiosks, facial recognition, high-speed rail in the basement.
