Things to Do in Wuhan (武汉)

3 must-see attractions and 4 total things to do.

Wuhan is a city you experience through your senses — and none more so than taste. Beyond the 4 attractions listed here, the food scene deserves a category of its own.

I recommend at least 2–3 days in Wuhan. You can comfortably cover the 3 must-sees in 2 days, then explore at leisure.

1. Yellow Crane Tower

黄鹤楼

Landmark

One of China's most famous towers, reconstructed on the Yangtze River with panoramic views.

2 hoursBest: Sunset
Tips:
  • Poetry inscriptions on each floor are fascinating
  • The night light show is beautiful

2. Hubu Alley

户部巷

Food

Wuhan's legendary 150-metre breakfast street — the best place to try re gan mian.

1-2 hoursBest: Early morning (7-9am)
Tips:
  • Go hungry — there are dozens of stalls
  • Re gan mian is a must-try
  • Wrap up by 11am — most stalls close by noon

3. Hubei Provincial Museum

湖北省博物馆

Museum

Home to the 2,400-year-old Zenghouyi chime bells — a world-class archaeological treasure.

2-3 hoursBest: Morning
Tips:
  • Free admission
  • Don't miss the chime bell concert (11am or 3pm)

4. East Lake (Donghu)

东湖

Nature

Three times the size of West Lake — rent a bike and explore peaceful lakeside paths.

2-4 hoursBest: Morning or sunset
Tips:
  • Rent a bike to cover more ground
  • Much less crowded than West Lake

Must-Try Local Food

In Wuhan, the food is an adventure in itself. Here are my picks for what to eat — if you skip these, you haven't really been.

Re Gan Mian

热干面 · ¥5–10

Wuhan's signature dish — hot dry noodles with sesame paste, pickled vegetables, and chilli oil.

where Any stall at Hubu Alley

Wuhan Duck Neck

武汉鸭脖 · ¥15–30

Spicy braised duck neck — Wuhan's most addictive street food.

where Juewei Duck Neck (chain) or local stalls
