Yunnan is China's most culturally diverse province — 25 ethnic minority groups, each with their own language, clothing, and traditions.

Day 1–2: Lijiang

Explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town (go early — it gets crowded)

Visit Shuhe, a quieter ancient town 20 minutes away

Watch a Naxi orchestra performance — ancient music played on instruments centuries old

Day 3–4: Tiger Leaping Gorge

One of the deepest gorges in the world. The 2-day hike is moderate difficulty with jaw-dropping views. I arrange guesthouse accommodation along the trail.

Day 5–6: Shangri-La

Songzanlin Monastery — "the Little Potala Palace"

Old Town Shangri-La — Tibetan architecture, yak butter tea, prayer wheels

Pudacuo National Park — alpine lakes and meadows

Best Time

March–May for spring flowers. September–November for clear skies and harvest season. July–August is rainy season (the rice terraces are beautiful but expect daily showers).
