New Year

(元旦)
Manageable

01-01 → 01-01 · 1 days

Quick break. Cities are calm — good time for urban exploration.

Spring Festival

(春节)
Best to Avoid

02-16 → 02-22 · 7 days

Late February this year. Warmer than usual for Spring Festival travel. Still — book trains NOW.

Qingming Festival

(清明节)
Busy — Plan Ahead

04-04 → 04-06 · 3 days

Cherry blossoms in full bloom. Wuhan and Nanjing are spectacular but packed.

Labor Day

(劳动节)
Best to Avoid

05-01 → 05-05 · 5 days

Excellent weather across China — which means everyone is travelling. Avoid big cities unless you like queues.

Dragon Boat Festival

(端午节)
Busy — Plan Ahead

06-20 → 06-22 · 3 days

Summer heat across the south. Head north or to the mountains for relief.

Mid-Autumn Festival

(中秋节)
Manageable

09-27 → 09-29 · 3 days

Beautiful moon-viewing season. Go to a tea house on a mountain for the full experience.

National Day

(国庆节)
Best to Avoid

10-01 → 10-07 · 7 days

Seven days of crowds. The Great Wall becomes a human river. Go to Tibet, China or Xinjiang, China if you must travel.

What the colours mean for your trip

Best to Avoid — Golden Week — all major attractions are overcrowded. Book everything months ahead or travel to remote areas.
Busy — Plan Ahead — Short domestic travel peak. Popular spots will be busy but manageable with early bookings.
Manageable — Short holiday, minimal travel disruption. Good time to be in cities.
