Hangzhou (杭州)
The legendary city of West Lake — tea plantations, classical gardens, and poetic beauty
Every Chinese poet worth the name has written about Hangzhou. After bringing clients here year after year, I finally understand why. West Lake at dawn — mist sitting on the water, locals practising tai chi on the shore — it's the kind of peace that's rare in modern China. I tell every traveller the same thing: don't rush Hangzhou. Let it work its magic slowly.
One of China's most beautiful cities, home to the fabled West Lake, Longjing tea, and a leisurely pace of life.
Hangzhou has been inspiring Chinese poets for over a thousand years. It's a city of stunning natural beauty wrapped around the legendary West Lake.
West Lake (Xi Hu)
A UNESCO World Heritage site that's best experienced on foot, by bike, or by boat. The lake is surrounded by temples, pagodas, and gardens. Walk the Su Causeway, visit Leifeng Pagoda, and take a boat to the island in the centre.
Longjing Tea Plantations
Hangzhou is the home of Longjing (Dragon Well) tea — China's most famous green tea. Visit the tea villages in the hills west of the lake, watch the tea leaves being hand-roasted, and taste the freshest cup you'll ever have.
Lingyin Temple
One of China's most important Buddhist temples, set in a forest of ancient trees and carved cliff faces. The 400+ year-old temple is still active — you'll see monks, pilgrims, and incense smoke.
Food
Hangzhou cuisine is subtle and refined. Dongpo pork (braised pork belly), West Lake vinegar fish, and Longjing shrimp (shrimp stir-fried with tea leaves) are the signature dishes.

Founded in 1874, this Hangzhou TCM pharmacy is both a working clinic and a museum. Longjing green tea — grown just outside town — is valued in TCM for its cooling, antioxidant properties.
